About
Silver Lining began as a creative outlet. Unique pieces were used as part of a collaborative, creative effort in Manchester’s fashion scene, as Rosie worked with other students and independent creatives in the city. Her pieces appeared in music videos for local bands, as well as in photoshoots and zines celebrating Northern culture and folklore. Today, we offer streetwear staples, commissions, and one-of-a-kind knitted pieces, all made manually in the studio on a Silver Reed Knitmaster.
Silver Lining is part of the movement to revive the autonomous Northern textile scene. We have a deep respect and understanding of Northern history and traditions, a lot of which are embedded in its once booming textile manufacturing industry. Today, a new generation of independent Northern knitwear studios is keeping these stories alive—reinterpreting heritage through contemporary craftsmanship.

Ethical and sustainable design is at the heart of our studio. Our intimate workshop atmosphere and small-scale production allow us to work resourcefully, keeping waste to a minimum and our process eco-conscious. Much of our larger equipment has been sourced second-hand, extending its life and reducing our environmental footprint. We work primarily with natural materials, chosen for their lasting quality, ease of repair, and biodegradability.

Behind The Scenes
The name Silver Lining began as a nickname for Rosie, the founder and designer behind the studio. Inspired by her characteristically white-silver hair, the name became her creative identity online and eventually the title behind her knitwear. After graduating from Manchester School of Art (Manchester Metropolitan University) in 2025, Rosie began developing Silver Lining into a legitimate studio.
Portfolio & Past Projects
Most of Rosie’s previous work draws inspiration from northern history, nature, and folklore. There is a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, texture, and lace, with the majority of her pieces being unique and unconventional knitted garments that embody folkloric narratives.
